Retatrutide Studies: A Simple Explanation of What the Research Showed

1. What was studied?

This is a summary of several studies evaluating a new drug called Retatrutide.

It was given to people with:

  • obesity
  • fatty liver disease (MASLD / formerly NAFLD)

The goal was simple:
See if it can reduce liver fat, body weight, and improve metabolism.

2. What is Retatrutide?

Retatrutide is a triple-agonist drug, meaning it activates 3 hormone systems:

The biggest finding:

Depending on the dose:

  • up to ~80%+ reduction in liver fat after 48 weeks

Placebo group:

  • basically no meaningful change

This was one of the strongest liver fat reductions seen in a clinical trial so far.

A lot of participants actually normalized their liver fat levels.

In the study:

  • up to ~80%+ reached normal liver fat levels at higher doses
  • placebo: 0%
